Greg Collins

Vice President, Carrier IP Telephony, Set-top Box & Wireless Packet Core Market Research  

Greg Collins joined Dell'Oro Group in 1998 and is responsible for Dell’Oro Group's Carrier IP Telephony, Set-top Box and Wireless Packet Core programs. He built our coverage on Mobility Infrastructure and oversees our Wireless LAN program.

Prior to joining Dell’Oro Group, Mr. Collins was the Director-Assistant Business Manager for Newbridge Networks' North American LAN Sales Division, where he was responsible for financial planning and controls, revenue planning and forecasting, sales compensation, and operations for the division. Mr. Collins joined Newbridge (now Alcatel-Lucent) from UB Networks via acquisition. While at UB, he held financial management positions supporting the worldwide sales and marketing functions. Mr. Collins joined UB Networks from Tandem Computers, where he held positions in Investor Relations and Corporate Financial Planning.

Mr. Collins also worked as a Research Analyst for the Committee for Economic Development, a Washington D.C.-based think tank that conducts research on a variety of economic, public policy, and economic development issues.

Mr. Collins contributes articles to various industry publications such as Telecom Asia, and is frequently quoted in leading trade and business publications including BusinessWeek, InformationWeek, InfoWorld, Network World, TechNewsWorld, TechWorld, and Unstrung. He is a frequent speaker at industry events worldwide such as CTIA, Interop, MIT-Stanford Venture Lab, Mobile Business Expo, NetEvents, NGN and VoiceCon.

Mr. Collins received a B.S. degree in Economics from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.B.A. in Finance and Marketing from Washington University in St. Louis.

 
 

Tam Dell’Oro

Founder, President and Senior Analyst for Mobility, Network Adapters & SAN Market Research  

Tam Dell’Oro is the founder and president of Dell’Oro Group, a research and consulting firm that specializes in business planning and strategic competitive analysis in the networking and telecommunications industry.  She developed Dell’Oro Group’s research methodologies and customer-focused processes to deliver the highest quality data network and telecom research.  Under her leadership, Dell’Oro Group is now considered the “gold standard” of market research in the telecommunications industry.  Ms. Dell’Oro covers the Mobility, Network Adpaters and SAN market research programs and oversees all of Dell’Oro Group’s research programs.

Before launching the firm in April 1995, Ms. Dell’Oro was the industry analyst for Local Area Networks at Dataquest.  She joined Dataquest from SynOptics (which was acquired by Bay Networks and subsequently became part of Nortel), where she spent four years in Business Planning.  At SynOptics, she developed a competitive analysis program to evaluate the strategic performance of key companies in the networking industry.  Prior to SynOptics, Ms. Dell’Oro administered technical contracts at a nuclear generating station with Bechtel Construction Corporation, as well as military aerospace contracts with the General Electric Company.

Ms. Dell’Oro is frequently quoted in vendor press releases and trade and business publications, including Barron’s Online, BusinessWeek, Forbes, InformationWeek, Network World, San Francisco Chronicle and The Wall Street Journal. She speaks frequently at various investor technology conferences and industry forums including Interop, NetEvents and TieCon.

Steve Nozik

Principal Analyst, Access Market Research  

Steve Nozik is responsible for Dell’Oro Group’s Access market research program.

Mr. Nozik brings to Dell’Oro Group more than 28 years of financial management, business planning, product management, and engineering experience.  He is widely quoted for his insights and expertise regarding industry structure and trends.

Prior to working with Dell’Oro Group, Mr. Nozik was Group Controller for the Service Sales and OEM Software Sales organizations for Sun Microsystems.  In this capacity, he was responsible for structuring sales transactions, financial planning and analysis, sales compensation, order administration, and credit/collections.  Prior to Sun, Mr. Nozik spent more than 12 years working for Amdahl Corporation, where his roles included Product Manager, Finance Manager, Business Planner, and Financial Analyst.  Mr. Nozik also worked for Motorola for three years in various financial analyst roles in the Computer Systems group. 

Graduating magna cum laude from Tufts University, Mr. Nozik earned a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering.  He received his M.B.A. in Finance from University of California, Berkeley.

 
 

Loren Shalinsky

Loren Shalinsky joined Dell’Oro Group in 2009, and is responsible for Dell’Oro Group’s Femtocell & Wireless LAN programs.

Prior to joining Dell’Oro Group, Mr. Shalinsky was Senior Corporate Strategic Marketing Manager and Corporate Development Manager at Spansion, a leader in flash memory solutions, where he performed market and competitive analysis and developed business plans for new products, including data storage products.

Before Spansion was spun off from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Mr. Shalinsky held various strategic and product marketing positions at AMD that focused on analysis and strategic planning for several business areas, including PC core logic processors, servers, and set-top boxes. Mr. Shalinsky began his career as a Project Engineer with Rockwell International at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, where he served as Flight Controller in the Mission Control Center for Space Shuttle missions.

Mr. Shalinsky received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Houston.

 
 

Shin Umeda

Shin Umeda covers the Carrier Ethernet and Routers market research programs and manages the Optical Transport market research program. 

Mr. Umeda joined Dell’Oro Group in 2000, bringing extensive experience in financial and operations planning and analysis. Prior to joining Dell’Oro Group, Mr. Umeda worked at Nortel for eight years, where he was the Management Reporting Manager for the Bay Networks Line of Business.  He joined Nortel through the acquisition of Bay Networks, where he held financial management positions in Corporate Management Reporting, Hub and Switch Product Business Unit Finance, and Business Operations and Planning.  Mr. Umeda also worked for SynOptics Communications, prior to its merger with Wellfleet Communications to form Bay Networks.

Alan Weckel

Alan Weckel joined Dell’Oro Group in early 2006 and is responsible for the Enterprise Telephony and Ethernet Switch market research programs. 

Prior to joining Dell’Oro Group, Mr. Weckel spent five years at Raytheon, where he worked as a Systems Engineer in the Network Centric Division on a variety of projects ranging from product development to integration and test.  Prior to Raytheon, Mr. Weckel held positions in software development and manufacturing at General Electric Power Systems and Cisco Systems, Inc.

Jimmy Yu

Jimmy Yu re-joined Dell’Oro Group in 2008 and is responsible for the Microwave Transmission and Optical Transport market research programs.

Mr. Yu originally joined Dell’Oro Group in 2001, and spent over four years as the primary analyst for Dell’Oro Group’s Optical Transport program and built our coverage of the PON market.  In 2006, Mr. Yu joined Spansion, a leader in flash memory solutions, where he was a Strategic Product Marketing Manager for Spansion’s server memory subsystem product line.

Prior to joining Dell’Oro Group in 2001, Mr. Yu worked for Deloitte Consulting in the strategy and operations group as a Management Consultant with a focus in the high-tech industry. Mr. Yu began his career in Northrop Grumman’s space technology group, where he was a lead mechanical engineer developing satellite communication subsystems and components, such as transceivers. While at Northrop Grumman, he also developed advanced packaging approaches for millimeter wave RF semiconductors, circuit boards, fiber optics, and photonics.

He is a recognized authority in the Optical Transport Market and has written articles in various industry magazines such as Lightwave. He is frequently quoted in publications such as BusinessWeek, Converge! Network Digest, Dallas Business Journal, Network World and Xchange.
