4 Gbps Fibre Channel Switch Sales Propel Market, According to Dell’Oro Group Cisco

Edges Out Brocade as Number One in High End

Redwood City, Calif. – August 31, 2006 –According to a recently published report by Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, Cisco’s Fibre Channel switch business was propelled by strong acceptance of their newly announce 4 Gbps products for their high end switch, the MDS 9500 series.  Within the first several weeks of availability 4 Gbps port shipments climbed to 35 percent of the total ports Cisco shipped on this platform.

“For three quarters, Brocade was the sole supplier with 4 Gbps capability in high end Fibre Channel switches.  It was rewarded with strong sequential sales growth and share gains for the past three quarters,” said Tam Dell’Oro, President of Dell’Oro Group.  “In the second quarter, both Cisco and McDATA began selling 4 Gbps products and the arrival of these alternative choices will likely bolster market sales in the second half of this year,” added Dell’Oro.
