Carrier Ethernet Router Sales Almost Surpass Switch Sales
Switch Ports Still Dominate
Redwood City, Calif. – November 15, 2007 –According to a recent
report from Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications
industries, revenue growth from sales of carrier Ethernet routers continued to outpace that of carrier Ethernet
switches in the third quarter of 2007. As a result of the strong growth in the carrier Ethernet router segment,
sales of carrier Ethernet routers are on the verge of surpassing carrier Ethernet switch sales. The report, which
tracks both routers and Ethernet switches used by telecommunications carriers in the access, aggregation and edge
portions of their networks, indicates that while router and switch revenue are neck-in-neck, switch ports still
comprise the majority of the combined mix.
“Carrier Ethernet switch ports still comprise the vast majority of total market shipments due to their deployments closer to the end user where there are many more connections,” said Seamus Crehan, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group.
