Optical Transport Market to Peak in 2008, According to Dell’Oro Group

Shifts in Regional Trends Will Lead to Decelerating Optical Equipment Growth

Redwood City, Calif. – January 29, 2007 – In a newly released report by Dell’Oro Group, growth rates for the worldwide Optical Transport market will decelerate over the next two years. Sales of Optical Transport equipment will peak at $9.6 billion in 2008, and then remain flat through 2011. The report points out contributing factors to the growth deceleration within the Optical Transport market.

“Strong global demand for all categories of Optical Transport equipment has fueled market growth over the past three years,” said Shin Umeda, Vice President of Optical Transport research at Dell’Oro Group. “However, we expect to see shifts in regional trends with softer demand in North America and Europe in the upcoming years. Demand for some Optical Transport technologies is expected to wane as the market transitions away from large network expansion projects to a run-rate maintenance mode,” added Umeda.
