WDM Market Surpasses $1 Billion in Revenues for the Second Consecutive Quarter, According to Dell'Oro Group

Alcatel-Lucent Leads EMEA Region

Redwood City, Calif. – May 23, 2007 – A newly published report by Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, reveals that worldwide sales of WDM Optical Transport equipment in the first quarter of 2007 grew 56 percent over the same period last year, driven by strong WDM Metro sales across all regions of the world.

“The exceptional year-over-year growth for WDM Metro was driven primarily by the EMEA region, with Alcatel-Lucent leading all vendors,” said Jason Suey, Analyst for Optical Transport research at Dell’Oro Group. “New services demand is driving equipment purchases for next generation networks. As a result, we are hearing certain technologies, such as 40 Gbps and ROADM, are playing a larger role in network upgrade plans,” Suey added.
