Draft-802.11n Revenues Exceeded $150 Million in First Year of Availability

Linksys Led Vendors

Redwood City, Calif. – May 17, 2007 – A recently published report from Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, reveals that revenues from shipments of draft-802.11n (Draft-N) wireless routers and client devices exceeded $150 million since the products became first available in the second quarter of 2006.  Draft-N product revenue growth during the first quarter proved to be a bright spot for the sequentially down wireless LAN (WLAN) market.

“Total Draft-N revenue is low compared to the first year of shipments for 802.11g products,” said Elmer Choy, Senior Analyst of Wireless LAN Research at Dell’Oro Group. “However, we expect this to change, because of two key factors: vendors have begun slowly cutting prices for Draft-N products and the Wi-Fi Alliance will begin certification of products based on Draft 2.0 of 802.11n in June of this year,” added Choy.

According to the report, Linksys’ share of total Draft-N revenue was more than double that of NETGEAR, the next closest vendor. D-Link, third in the Draft-N wireless LAN segment, experienced 50 percent revenue growth in the first quarter as a result of promotional campaigns held during the quarter.
