Dell’Oro Group Forecasts Chassis Ethernet Switch
Resurgence
Chassis Ethernet Switch Revenues to Approach $10
Billion in 2012
Redwood City, Calif. – January 29, 2008 –
According to a recent report by Dell’Oro Group,
the trusted source for information about the telecommunications and networking
industries, the percentage of chassis
(or modular) switch port shipments compared to total Ethernet Switch
port shipments will stabilize in the first half of this year and start
to rebound by the end of 2008 after many years
of decline.
“There are two main drivers for upcoming shift towards modular products,”
said Alan Weckel, Senior Analyst of Dell’Oro Group.
“First, as datacenter bandwidth requirements continue to grow,
there will be a need for higher backplane capacity products.
These products are needed today to accommodate 10 Gigabit Ethernet
as an aggregation technology, and will be in the future as a direct server connection.
Second, we expect significant and compelling chassis switch introductions
from both existing vendors and new entrants will help drive sales,” added Weckel.
