North America Drives Ethernet Switch Market Rebound in the Second Quarter

Emerging Markets Absent From Recovery

10 Gigabit Ethernet Contributes to the Majority of Revenue Growth in the Quarter

Redwood City, Calif. – August 13, 2009 – A recent market research report from Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, indicates that growth in the Ethernet Switch market during the second quarter of this year was driven by North America, where port shipments grew by roughly 20 percent sequentially.

"Most vendors experienced robust growth in North America during the quarter," said Alan Weckel, Director of Ethernet Switch Market Research at Dell'Oro Group. "Despite significant growth over the past few years from emerging markets, such as Brazil, Russia, India and China, the Ethernet Switch market is still dominated by North America that accounts for almost 40 percent of port shipments and over half of the total market revenue," Weckel added.

The report also shows that 10 Gigabit Ethernet experienced the most robust growth during the quarter, with blade switches designed for the blade server market helping drive this segment. Vendors such as Cisco, Blade, Dell and HP all have Ethernet Switch offerings in this segment.
