Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, reported today that it forecasts sales of high-bandwidth enabling GPON OLTs, DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS and VDSL infrastructure equipment will be the lead growth segments in the Access market through 2016 offsetting declining revenue for slower-speed ADSL equipment. The report also indicates that GPON will have the highest growth rate followed by CMTS and VDSL.
“Our forecast for GPON growth is driven by deployments in China as well as increasing projects in other global regions.“ said Steve Nozik, Principal Analyst of Access research at Dell’Oro Group. “For CMTS, growth will be driven by rapidly increasing Internet traffic, competition with telecom service providers, and an increasing focus on the small and medium-sized business market among cable operators as well as a migration to IP video service. We expect DOCSIS to continue as the primary Cable broadband technology for at least the next five years due to additional channel bonding being used to meet increasing bandwidth requirements. VDSL’s higher bandwidth capabilities in association with emerging vectoring technology aimed at extending the life of copper infrastructure by eliminating cross-talk will drive VDSL growth over the next five years.“ added Nozik.
The Dell’Oro Group Access 5-Year Forecast Report provides a complete overview of the broadband access industry, with tables covering manufacturers’ revenue, average selling prices, and port/unit shipments for Cable, DSL, and PON equipment.
