Ethernet Switch Market Retreats in the First Quarter of 2006
Ports and Revenues Post Similar Declines
Redwood Shores, Calif. – May 17, 2006 –
A recently published report from Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for
market information about the networking and telecommunications industries,
reveals that in the first quarter of 2006, the Ethernet Switch market
declined sequentially following three consecutive quarters of growth. The
report indicates that the Fast Ethernet segment, which was instrumental
in driving growth in the fourth quarter of 2005, experienced the most severe decline.
“Although the market did decline sequentially, on a year-over-year
basis it experienced a double digit increase,” said Seamus Crehan,
Director of Ethernet Switch Research at Dell’Oro Group. “We still
believe that the Ethernet Switch market remains robust and attribute the first
quarter decline more to seasonal softness than to overall market weakness,” added Crehan.
