The Optical Distribution Network (ODN) is an integral part of all PON networks for residential fiber services. The ODN provides the physical layer connection between OLTs and ONTs. The ODN is generally composed of the optical fiber cable, optical distribution cabinet or hut, optical splitters, fiber distribution huts, splice enclosures, and ONT housings or terminal boxes. ODNs have already undergone multiple evolutions. First-generation ODNs were very labor-intensive, with technicians typically hand-splicing fiber connections in a neighborhood or MDU. The second generation of ODNs began relying more on pre-connectorized cables, which eliminated the need for fiber splicing in the field. Now, a third generation of ODN is being deployed which includes an intelligent management system to automatically identify and locate failures or obstructions to the level of specific fibers and to individual customer locations.

To take advantage of the opportunities associated with the deployment of intelligent ODNs to support residential and business PON services, fiber ISPs, component and equipment manufacturers, and financial institutions will find answers to critical business questions, including:

  • What is the total market opportunity for ODN equipment?
  • How quickly will operators upgrade their ODNs to incorporate intelligent components designed to improve overall service reliability?
  • Will there be regional differences in how ODNs are architected and deployed?
  • How many more fiber route miles are required to achieve the homes passed and homes connected goals of the world’s largest operators?

The report includes  tables showing manufacturers’ revenue, units shipped, and average selling prices. The report also includes a 5-year forecast for the following areas:

  • Segments: Fiber-Optic Cabling (Distribution, Drop, and Feeder Fiber), Splice Closures and Enclosures, Patch Panels and Distribution Frames, Fiber Distribution Hubs, Fiber Access Terminals, Fiber Transition Terminals, and Fiber Cabinets
  • Regions: North America, EMEA, Asia Pacific, CALA, and Worldwide
