The Microwave Transmission market posted another strong quarter of year-over-year growth in 1Q25. This quarter’s increase marks the second consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year growth, which began at the end of 2024. Similar to the fourth quarter of last year, the 1Q25 market improvement was driven by the higher demand for mobile backhaul (MBH) equipment in emerging regions of the world, especially India, the Middle East, and Africa. We estimate the year-over-year growth in these parts of the world was 82%, 21%, and 26%, respectively.
The top six vendors in 1Q25, based on the order of highest worldwide revenue share to lowest, were Huawei, Ericsson, ZTE, Ceragon, Aviat, and Nokia. Both Huawei and Ericsson continued to hold their top spots in the quarter, while ZTE jumped to the third-highest share due to the company’s success in winning new awards in the Middle East and Africa region.
With recent market consolidation, vendor concentration has increased in the Microwave Transmission market. The figure below displays the top two suppliers for each major region, along with their combined market share for the trailing four-quarter period (2Q24 through 1Q25). Note that Huawei is a top supplier in four regions, and ZTE is a top supplier in two regions, while the other vendors are listed in only one region.
